A Captain and her Plant.
Remember the season 6 episode "Survival Instinct?" Yeah, it was another ASATT episode (AKA: "All Seven All The Time") but this episode also hid something rather special. Below the covering plot of Seven and her Borg friends, this episode hid an enchanting new character. The Prehensile Plant.
The Ready Room scene.
Marvel as in this short time, the Prehensile Plant steals the show.
Jim Wright says: "As Chakotay struggles with the unwieldy item, the camera sweeps through the Ready Room--and we see it choked to the rafters with gifts of every size and color. When the view settles on Janeway's desk, we see the captain locked in tender embrace with a very affectionate plant. "The station manager didn't tell me the vines were prehensile," Janeway explains, trying to extricate herself. "I went to put some water in the pot and it grabbed me." Well, at least the plant has good taste."
Therefore, in a single scene, the Prehensile Plant was able to grab the imaginations of the audience better than some cast regulars have done. And of course, it grabbed Captain Janeway, in a way that few others can claim.
This did not go un noticed. The Prehensile Plant got more touchy feely action with our Captain than Chakotay has done since Season 3. Many intrepid souls were spurred by this incredible performance to write stories which feature the Plant and our Captain.
Of this I am sure. The Prehensile Plant will always hold a special place in the heart of Captain Janeway.
